I feel it. ”
In an interview with Pop Culture, Melanie Linsky, who plays Betty, explained how she wants to do justice to Betty with her performance in Candy. “I liked all the little moments where they just showed the daily life of the suburbs that these women led and how much was put on their shoulders – how much they had to do every day, how exhausted they were and how [we] “Get to know them both slowly,” she said. “Then it all culminates at the end of the show in a way that’s so shocking.”
She continued: “I wanted to make sure that her story was told in the fullest possible way. According to Texas Monthly, Candy confessed to the murder during a hypnosis session with psychiatrist Dr. Fred Fason. During the trial, she claims to have visited Betty to get a swimsuit for Betty’s daughter, Alice, who stayed with Candy and her husband for the night. While at Betty’s home, Betty confronted Candy about the Alan affair, which Candy admitted, but told Betty it had happened “a long time ago.” During the trial, Candy claimed that Betty left the room and returned with an ax, threatening Candy never to see Allen again, which Candy agreed. When he took Alice’s swimsuit, Candy apologized to Betty, which she said made Betty angry and push her into a utility room. Candy claims that she and Betty had a long struggle that caused cuts to her toes and head. She also claims that Betty told her she wanted to “kill her”. Candy also claims that she managed to take the ax from Betty and used the blade on Betty for self-defense before her boyfriend could attack her again. Terrified that she had killed Betty, Candy tried to leave the room, but before she could do so, she claimed that Betty had stopped her by banging her body on the door.
A fight ensued between Betty and Candy, as Betty refused to let Candy go. During the battle, Betty told Candy to “shut up,” which repelled Candy and made her hit her with an ax to the point of exhaustion. During her hypnosis session, Candy also claimed to have suffered childhood trauma when she was told to keep quiet. He was out of town on the day of Betty Allen’s murder. When he was unable to contact his wife by phone, he asked neighbors to check on her. As they entered the house, they found Betty’s dead body as Betty and Allen’s 1-year-old daughter, Bethany, who was sleeping in her crib in another room at the time of the murder, was crying and awake. A few feet from Betty was a three-foot-long ax that authorities say Candy cut Betty 41 times, including 28 times on her head and face.
Shortly after the murder, Betty became local authority and was released on $ 100,000 bail, according to Fort Worth Star-Telegram. After an eight-day trial – where the defense claims that Candy acted in self-defense, and the prosecution claims that Betty was conscious when most of the stabbings occurred and that her death was intentional (and that she also took a bath in the bathroom of Betty after the murder) – Candy was acquitted on charges of murder in October 1980. It’s kind of beautiful to see a story about two women who struggle and do the best they can in life, but they act differently – to do it, not to do it – and then everything works out this horrible way. ”
