Five-star quarterback Dylan Rayola has joined the state of Ohio

What a way to start a class in Ohio in 2024.

Ryan Day has not only made his first commitment in the 2024 cycle, but has identified the quarterback of the future of the state of Ohio. Five-star Arizona caller Dylan Raiola gave his verbal commitment to OSU on Monday, his birthday, unofficially becoming the leader of the next cycle of OSU recruitment.

Rayola was proposed by Buckeyes on his first visit to Columbus in October when he visited Ohio for the Penn State game, then returned on April 1-3 for his second visit. After his family joined him, Rayola fell in love with what Ohio had to offer and built a relationship with CJ Stroud and quarterback coach Corey Dennis as he watched OSU training for Student Thanksgiving.

This visit impressed the Rayola family so much that they returned two weeks later for another visit during the Ohio Spring Game. It was during this visit that Rayola felt comfortable enough to pull the trigger and stop dialing almost a month later, giving OSU another top-level quarterback waiting on its wings. Rayola chose the Buckeyes over the USC, the best contender with Lincoln Riley in heavy pursuit and many others, including Alabama, Oregon and Georgia.

The Raiola file

  • Class: 2024

  • Size: 6-3 / 225

  • Position: QB

  • School: Chandler High School (Chandler, Arizona)

  • Compiled rating: ★★★★★

  • Compiled rank: # 8 (# 3 QB)

Rayola became the third five-star quarterback to join the state of Ohio in four years, joining Kyle McCord and Quinn Yurse (who have since moved to Texas). First quarterback Devin Brown was also ranked as the No. 1 overall rookie and a five-star rookie in the 2022 class of On3.

According to the composite rankings of 247Sports, Raiola is considered the No. 8 prospective overall and the third best quarterback in the 2024 class. However, 247Sports and On3 rank Raiola as the No. 1 overall player in the 2024 cycle in their own rankings. Anyway, Day clearly gave his blow and bets on Rayola to be a potential successor to Kyle McCord or Devin Brown when the time comes.

Raiola did not lack success at the beginning of his preparatory career. In 12 games for Burleson High School (Burleson, Texas) last season, Rayola finished 220 of 336 passes for 3,243 yards and 32 touchdowns with a serve rating of 122. On the ground, Rayola had 53 passes for 97 yards, but scored nine rushing touchdowns.

Rayola transferred to Chandler High School (Chandler, Arizona) in the offseason and will play his last two high school seasons there before arriving in Columbus. If Chandler High School sounds familiar, this is where freshman Cayon Grace played in high school, so maybe that’s where some pipeline starts.

Quarterback with a large body of 6 feet 3 and 225 pounds, Rayola is the son of the legend of Nebraska and former center of the Detroit Lions Dominic Rayola.
