Congress will hold the first open hearing on UFOs or unidentified aerial phenomena in more than 50 years next week.

Deputy Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security Ronald Moultrie and Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence Scott Bray will testify before the House Intelligence Subcommittee of the House of Representatives on May 17.

“The American people expect and deserve their leaders in government and intelligence to take seriously and respond to any potential risks to national security – especially those we do not fully understand,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

A report released last summer by the director of National Intelligence examines 144 UFO cases, or as the government calls them, unidentified aerial phenomena, and can only explain one.

More than half of the reported incidents were detected by multiple sensors, including “radar, infrared, electro-optical, weapon finders and visual surveillance,” according to the report.

Other accidents have been characterized by “unusual traffic patterns or UAP flight characteristics”, such as the ability to remain still in high winds, to move against the wind, to maneuver sharply or to move at significant speeds without noticeable means of propulsion ‘.

The only explainable incident was identified as a leaking balloon.

The Ministry of Defense set up a group to synchronize the identification and management of air sites in November last year to “detect, identify and assign sites of interest”.

“The DOD takes intrusion reports very seriously – from any airfield, identified or unidentified – and investigates each one,” the department said at the time.
