The Nintendo Switch marked its first significant drop in US prices, months after regions such as the United Kingdom and Europe saw similar price reductions.
The console can now be purchased for $ 259.99, a reasonable drop of $ 40 from the previous price of $ 299.99, which it has held at almost five years.
The Nintendo Switch drops to just $ 260 for the first time
As early as September 2021, Nintendo Switch consoles sold in Europe received an official price reduction shortly before the Switch OLED was launched. There has been some speculation about price cuts in the United States, but Nintendo has previously responded by saying there were “no plans” to drop prices in the United States.
But about nine months later, the price cut has finally taken place, with Nintendo Switch consoles currently down to $ 259.99 at Amazon and Walmart. It is not clear at this time whether this will be a permanent reduction in prices, or just limited sales or promotions for Switch.
Nintendo confirmed this week that it sold 235 million games for the Switch in fiscal 2021 – the largest number sold in a year in the company’s history. Sales of consoles also continue to show good results, with the three Switch models selling 23 million units in the 2021 fiscal year. But while that’s a huge number (by comparison, the PS5 sold 11.5 million over the same period), it’s also a 20% drop over the 2020 fiscal year.
The Nintendo Switch now has a total of 107.65 million units sold, lagging only the Game Boy (118.69 million) and the Nintendo DS (154.02 million) as Nintendo’s most successful consoles of all time.
