The first five numbers were called correctly: 15, 19, 20, 61 and 70. But since the golden mega ball was chosen, the number 9 – with a line drawn below it – could be seen on the ball. Crowe called it 6, as seen in a video posted on the Mega Millions YouTube channel.
The video included a built-in caption explaining the accident.
“Ball 9 has been pulled into the camera and is the official result,” the caption said, adding that the correct results had been audited by Preston CPA. “We apologize for the confusion.”
The approximate Mega Millions jackpot on Tuesday was $ 86 million. If no ticket matches the correct six numbers, the next expected jackpot is $ 99 million and the next draw will take place on Friday.
All Mega Millions players must keep their tickets for May 10, 2022, withdrawing until the problem is resolved, the New York Lottery announced on its website.
CNN turned to the New York Lottery and Mega Millions to see how many lottery players may have been affected by the error.
CNN’s Christina Sgelia contributed to this report.
