Teenagers arrested for alleged bear and son bear spray in East Vancouver

Vancouver police said they arrested two teenagers on Saturday night after they allegedly sprayed a father and son with a bear and made racist remarks near Nanaimo SkyTrain station.

Police say the father and son were returning from a Vancouver Whitecaps game around 9pm when they clashed with a group of teenagers.

“There was a verbal exchange and it is alleged that one of the teenagers used bear spray,” said a VPD sergeant. Said Steve Addison.

“VPD officers found the teenagers nearby and arrested two of them. Both are well known to the police. “

Addison said police believed the suspects and victims knew each other.

Police said a 13-year-old was arrested for assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon and violation of court conditions, and a 17-year-old was also arrested.

Police say the teens also possessed crack cocaine.

They were released until the investigation is completed, police said.
