The man is facing arms charges after the victim was hit with a rifle

Charges include assault with a weapon, robbery and possession of a weapon obtained through a crime

A 40-year-old man faces a number of weapons charges after police said he stole a rifle and hit the victim with it on April 28.

News release issued by Sault Ste. Marie Police Services said Travis Parsons was found and arrested last Friday.

The full text of the press release follows:

On May 13, 2022, patrol officers charged 40-year-old Travis Parsons with firearms crimes.

On April 28, 2022, the accused and the victim were at his home when a quarrel broke out. [It is alleged that] he stole a rifle from the victim, pushing them to the ground and hitting them with a pistol. The victim, known to the accused, called the police. At that time, the accused returned the rifle to the victim, and the victim left the area.

An investigation ensued and officers requested and received an arrest warrant for the accused. He was discovered on May 13, 2022 and arrested by order.

He is charged with: • Robbery for theft of a firearm • Possession of a weapon obtained through a crime • Unauthorized possession of a firearm • Possession of a firearm knowing that its possession is unauthorized • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose • Unauthorized possession of a firearm of firearms • Assault with a weapon • Use of a firearm in the commission of a crime • Possession of a firearm in violation of the Prohibition Order • Possession of ammunition in violation of the Prohibition Order • Failure to comply with a probation order x3

He was detained pending a bail hearing.
