Winnipeg police believe a garbage truck hit a cyclist while hitting and running

A cyclist was seriously injured when he hit and ran down Erin Street and Sargent Avenue around 5 a.m. Wednesday, Winnipeg police said.

Police believe the man was hit by a garbage truck that drove away after the collision.

The man in his 30s was taken to hospital in critical condition, police said in a press release. Earlier, police said he was unstable.

What looked like two confused bicycles were left lying on Erin, who was blocked by police south of Sargent for investigation.

Erin was still blocked at 11:30 a.m., a police spokeswoman said, but she did not know how long she would remain locked up.

Traffic police are asking for help in identifying the driver. Anyone with information about the police can call 204-986-7085.
