Boston Celtics goalkeeper Marcus Smart, Utah Jazz center Rudy Robert and Milwaukee Bucks striker Janis Adetokunmpo have highlighted the 2021-22 NBA All-Defensive, which was announced Friday night.

Smart, the best defender of the year in the league for 2021-22, won his third prize for the first team. He was joined on guard by Phoenix Suns’ Michal Bridges, who won his first prize of his career at the All-Defensive Team. Smart and Bridges were the first two to win votes.

Antetokounmpo took his fifth prize for all defensive teams and his fourth selection for the first team. Since all defensive teams were first announced in 1968-69, the only other players with four first-team selections and multiple MVPs are Karim Abdul-Jabar, Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Tim Duncan.

Adetokunmpo was joined by striker Jaren Jackson Jr. from Memphis, who, like Bridges, won his first selection.

Gober, who has won three of his last four Defender of the Year awards, has won his sixth straight selection. This breaks the tie with Hakim Olajuwon and Abdul-Jabar for the most consecutive medals in the first team for center.

The second team was Jru Holliday from Milwaukee, Matisse Tibul from Philadelphia, Bam Adebayo from Miami, Draymond Green from Golden State and Robert Williams III from Boston.

As Smart and Williams make the team, this is the first time Boston has had several players on the team for all defenses since Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett made the team in 2011-12.

The Celtics had six players who eventually got the vote, with Jaylan Brown, Jason Tatum and Al Horford getting the vote for the first team. Celtics reserve guard Derrick White, acquired in the trading deadline by the San Antonio Spurs, received three votes for the second team.

The election of Holiday, his fourth overall, earned him a $ 120,000 bonus.

This was Green’s seventh selection for the team and he did so, playing in only 46 games. According to a study by ESPN Stats & Information, only Andrei Kirilenko (41 in 2004-05) and Scotty Pipen (44 in 1997-98) made the All-Defensive team by playing fewer games.

Adebayo made his third team of his All-Defensive career, while he was second to Tibul and first to Williams.

Newcomers Evan Mobley of Cleveland and Herb Jones of New Orleans were fifth and sixth, respectively, to win votes for strikers. They failed to become the first rookies on the All-Defensive team since Tim Duncan did so in 1997-98.
