A New York Supreme Court judge approved a new congressional map of the Empire State late Friday, triggering some potential primary elections for Democrats.
Some of the changes made to the latest map of the New York Congress included placing the Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant communities entirely in the 9th and 8th Congressional Districts, respectively, instead of separating them.
In the 11th Congressional District, Staten Island was united with the areas of Bath Beach, Bensonhurst, New Utrecht and Bay Ridge.
Within the 10th Congressional Sunset Park in Brooklyn and the Chinatown of Manhattan were included together, according to The New York Times.
Following the news of the approved cards, the representative Jerry Nadler (DN.Y.) confirmed on Twitter that he will run in the 12th congressional district.
“This new district does not belong to an individual candidate, but to the voters who call it home. “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve on the West Side and look forward to presenting myself – and my history of leadership as a leader – more fully to the neighboring East Side communities,” Nadler wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, spokesman Monder Jones (DN.Y.), who currently represents the 17th Congressional District, said he would run for the 10th Congressional District.
“The final maps published today are the result of guerrilla policy, drawn up by a national court appointed outside the country, which has shown complete disregard for the cultural, social and economic communities of interest. It is designed to reduce the number of Democrats in New York in Congress, “he tweeted.
“I have decided to run for another seat in Congress in # NY10. This is the birthplace of the LGBTQ + rights movement. “Long before the Stonewall uprising, colorful strange people have sought refuge within its borders,” he added in a subsequent tweet.
Biden would consider meeting with Kim Jong Un if he were “sincere” and “serious” Biden signed a $ 40 billion aid package for Ukraine in law
Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) announced on Friday that he would run in the 10th Congressional District.
The unveiling of the card earlier this week shocked Democrats as the card introduced a primary election for members, including between Nadler and Representative Carolyn Maloney (DN.Y.) for the 12th Congressional District.
Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (DN.Y.), who chairs the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), said he would run for the 17th Congressional District instead of the 18th Congressional District he currently represents and would created an awkward primary election between him and Jones.
