Tens of thousands of homes in Quebec were left without electricity after severe storms

Heavy thunderstorms hit Quebec late in the afternoon and on Saturday evening.

In total, Hydro-Québec reported 1,237 outages, affecting 468,837 homes across the province.

According to Hydro-Quebec, more than 90,000 homes were still without electricity at 10 a.m. in the Outaouais area and more than 150,000 in Laurentians.

The Crown Corporation attributes the interruptions to “strong thunderstorms”. In addition, some 100,000 customers in the Lanodier region experienced power outages.

In total, Hydro Quebec reported that 398,889 customers were experiencing power outages.

Major disruptions were also reported in the Quebec City and Morrissey regions.

Another warning was then issued for western Montreal and parts of the Laurentians, including Lachute and Saint-Jérôme.

At 22:00, strong thunderstorms and tornadoes ended in many parts of the province. However, warnings of severe thunderstorms are still in effect in most of Montreal, the Eastern Towns and Buss.

In the Outaouais area, several residents shared photos on social media of the church of Saint-Fidèle in Facet, whose bell tower collapsed.
