A fisherman died after an accident at Loch Alva Dam, NB

The RCMP in New Brunswick reported that a man from St. John died after an accident on Saturday afternoon on Loch Alva, near Muscois.

RCMP Cpl. Julie Rodgers-Marsh described the incident as a “sudden death” after the man fell from a boat into the water. She said other fishermen who were on the scene tried to get the man back on board, but failed.

“A 45-year-old man from St. John’s was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that night,” Rodgers-Marsh said Sunday. “Another man who jumped to try to save the 45-year-old was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

In a statement late Saturday, the Musquash Fire Department said it had received a call to 911 for medical help at Loch Alva Dam at 4:08 p.m. on Saturday. The department said CPR was applied to one unresponsive fisherman and that another fisherman was suffering from hypothermia.

The New Brunswick RCMP said an autopsy would be performed next week to determine the exact cause of the 45-year-old man’s death.
