A man was sent to hospital after a shooting in the southeastern part of Acadia on Monday.

Officers were called to Heritage Drive’s Acadia Village residential complex around 11:30 a.m. for reports of gunshots. Police found a man with an obvious gunshot wound in front of a house in the nearby block 8500 of Atlas Drive SE
Paramedics took the 18- or 19-year-old man to Foothills Medical Center in a life-threatening condition. The man received a gunshot wound to the leg.
Police cordoned off Atlas Drive’s home and remained outside the residence until Monday afternoon. Bloodstains could be seen on the steps.
Officials also sealed an alley between Attica Drive SE and Acadia Village. There was a jeep in the alley with a bullet hole in the door. Police told residents that the parties involved in the shooting did not live in the area.

Police said in a press release Monday night that officers found at the scene something that appeared to be a firearm case. They said they had toured the area with suspects and were still looking for two suspected men who had been spotted leaving the area on foot.

Residents of the area describe the street as quiet, with many residents living in the community for decades. Several told Postmedia that they had seen drug arrests in the neighborhood before, but never a violent crime, expressing shock that the shooting came to light.
Keith Stang was working in his backyard when he heard the shots. At first he thought the sounds might have been someone working on their house, like shingles.
“A few minutes later, a man ran down the back street. . . “Shortly afterwards, a second man ran down the back alley,” Stang said.

“There’s a little surprise going on in the neighborhood.”
Susan Fraser said she was shocked to see the crime scene when she returned home from shopping with her mother. Her childhood home, which her parents bought in 1973, is behind the street, police sealed after the shooting.
“It’s a great area. I grew up here. This is my place to tread, “Fraser said.
“For something like this to happen, you can’t understand it. But only one person with a gun is needed.
The Acadia shooting was the first of two shootings reported on Victoria Day in the city, with the second taking place around 2:50 p.m. near Block 1000 on 17th Avenue SW A young man was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds in severe but stable condition .
At around 4 pm, police said it was too early to determine whether there was a connection between the two incidents.
