Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s Defamation Trial: Hurd’s Lawyers Shut Down

The March testimony of Walter Hamada, president of DC Films, a division of Warner Bros., recorded for March, was played for the jury in the defamation lawsuit between Hurd and her ex-husband Johnny Depp. Hamada testifies that “Aquaman” is the most profitable film for the company. He said the studio had never planned to portray Hurd as co-star in Aquaman 2, and that Hurd’s role was not diminished in the upcoming film Aquaman, The Lost Kingdom.

“The size of the role of the film she has was determined in the early development of the script, which would take place in 2018, I would say. The hero’s involvement in the story was something of what it was from the beginning, “Hamada testified. “From the early stages of script development, the film is built around Arthur’s character and Orme’s character. Arthur is Jason Momoa and Orme is Patrick Wilson. They’ve always co-directed the film.

Depp is suing Hurd for $ 50 million over a 2018 Washington Post article in which she wrote that the actor claimed he was slandering him and that he had allegedly lost his job. Hurd filed a $ 100 million lawsuit against Depp, alleging statements from his lawyer in which he called her allegations of Depp’s harassment a “scam” that slandered her and cost her her job.

Hurd testified that he believed that her role in “Aquaman 2” was reduced and that she had to fight even to participate in the film, which is in post-production and is scheduled to debut in 2023 (CNN and Warner Bros. are part of Warner Bros. Discovery.)

But Hamada testified that there was a discussion about Hurd’s role after the filming of Aquaman.

“I think the editorial staff managed to make this connection work in the first film, but there were fears that it would take a lot of effort to get there and whether it would be better to rework it, to find someone who has more. good, more natural chemistry with Jason Momoa and move on that way, ”Hamada testified.

Hamada says the couple appears to have good chemistry at Aquaman, but the film relies on “post-production magic”, including editing, sound design and music, to help “fabricate” their chemistry.

“It’s like what makes a movie star a movie star. You know that when you see him. And the chemistry wasn’t there,” Hamada said in testimony. “A good editor and a good director can choose the right doubles and choose the right moments and put together scenes against a score. The music on stage makes a big difference.

Hamada also testified that Hurd’s role in the film and her ability to renegotiate her compensation were not affected by her involvement in the Depp dispute or any statements made by Depp’s representatives.

Hurd’s lawyers dropped the case

Hurd’s lawyers dropped their case earlier Tuesday.

Hurd testified for five days this month. Witnesses include actress Ellen Barkin, whose recorded testimony was released to jurors last week. Barkin said that while having sex with Depp in the 1990s, she once saw the actor throw a bottle of wine into a wall during a quarrel.

The proposal to dismiss Hurd’s counterclaims against Depp was rejected on Tuesday.

His team is expected to continue presenting witnesses to Wednesday’s rebuttal, including Kate Moss, Depp’s ex-girlfriend.

Closing speeches are expected on Friday.
