Fox & Friends presenter Ainsley Earhard fought back tears as she described the bewilderment following a mass shooting at a Texas primary school this week that killed at least 19 children.
“I just sit here and think – you hear the phrase in the church… that we all put Jesus on the cross. It wasn’t just one group. We were all guilty because he had to die on the cross for our sins, “said Earhardt, a devout Christian who often speaks openly about his faith, on Wednesday morning’s webcast.
– Are these all our mistakes? she asked. “I want to say that as a country we are so divided. We are – you hate someone else because he votes differently than you? Do you know what makes these people do this to take a gun and come in and kill our children? Why should we worry about that now? ”
Earhard’s voice broke, and she paused to regain her composure as she continued.
“And you think about what these parents are going through and they’ll never see their children again, you know, and even if they have three children, that doesn’t replace what they lost,” she said in a trembling voice.
“But what about the mother who has one child and will never become a grandmother, because this man went into these schools and did it. What do we need to do to heal ourselves as a state and make sure that these armed men like this one will be stopped before they get to this point? ”
An 18-year-old assailant shot dead at least 19 students and two adults on Tuesday during a shooting in Uwalde, Texas. Authorities say the suspect, who was killed by police during a shootout, also shot his grandmother before he went on a rampage at the school.
The incident has sparked growing calls for tougher gun control measures by Democrats, activists and families of school shooting victims. Republican politicians and conservative experts have largely responded, saying the incident should be seen as evidence of the need for more safety measures at school.

Earhard said parents should help children who are struggling.
“Parents, take your children to church. I do not know what is going on in the hearts of these people, but they have a void. They have a hole in their heart and they are evil and unhappy. Help them get help. And I know that parents are not always to blame, because parents try in many cases and when there is a mental illness, sometimes you are on your mind and you can’t do much more, “she said.
“But I do not know what the solution is. I don’t know how to fix this. But I know that you love your neighbor as yourself. This is what the Bible instructs us to do. Don’t write your neighbor’s custom if he or she is a Democrat or a Republican. And our country is so divided and I’m just tired of all this evil and I don’t know what the solution is, but we definitely need to love each other and go back to where we were after 9/11, when we were one country. ”
