Castro asked the FBI to investigate the police response

Texas Democrat Joaquin Castro on Thursday asked the FBI to investigate the chronology of the Uwalde Elementary School massacre and police response as controversy grew as law enforcement officials responded to the scene.

“The people of Uwalde, Texas and the nation deserve an accurate account of what happened,” wrote FBI Director Christopher Ray. “Civil servants have provided conflicting bills that contradict those provided by witnesses.”

“Your agency must ensure that the American people have a complete and comprehensive account of how this tragedy happened,” wrote Castro, an area that covers parts of San Antonio, less than 90 miles from Uwalde.

The congressman’s letter came as a senior Texas law enforcement official contradicted earlier police reports and said 18-year-old Salvador Ramos had not encountered an armed school police officer with a rifle before entering Rob Elementary School on Tuesday. in the morning and start firing with a rifle in the style of AR-15.

As police responded to the school within four minutes, authorities waited an hour to enter the school when a U.S. tactical patrol team arrived, entered and killed Ramos, Texas Regional Department of Public Security (DPS) Regional Director Victor Escalon.

Ramos killed 19 children at the school, along with two teachers.

Castro, in his letter to Ray, cites a number of reports that say: “Onlookers say parents have unsuccessfully called on law enforcement to enter the building during this time.” According to some reports, the cops stopped the parents from entering the school.

“I urge the FBI to use its full powers to thoroughly investigate the timing and response of law enforcement agencies and to produce a complete, timely and transparent report of your findings,” Castro wrote.
