Steve Kerr said he did not want action against gun violence to end after his passionate request in Dallas following the mass shooting at a school in Uwalde.
“I have a lot of friends who are Democrats and a lot of friends who are Republicans,” Kerr said before Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals against Mavericks.
“All I know is that everyone wants gun violence to go away, so we just have to get our government officials to respond to what we all want. I don’t know how to do it, but we will try. “
A longtime advocate for gun control, Kerr said he got many people to contact him after his comments “enough is enough” before Game 4 on Tuesday after the shooting at Rob Elementary School. Along with the shooter, 19 students and two teachers were killed.

“Most people ask what they can do. I think that’s a really good question, “Kerr said. “So many people want to help and they want to make an impact. I think the last one was Miami [Wednesday] the night was great on the board. “
After a minute of silence in the Eastern Conference finals against Boston, Heat put a number on the main board, urging fans to contact their senators, “demanding their support for common sense gun laws.”
Kerr acknowledged that the issue has become a polarizing political issue and said it should be seen as a public health issue.
“What I urge people to do is get involved in their local communities,” Kerr said. “There is a very incredible security of weapons, weapons prevention groups. Call your senators, your representatives. Everything is very useful. “
