Chase Center erupts after Dubs announcer calls for “reasonable gun laws”

Before game 5 of the Western Conference Finals on Thursday night, the Golden State Warriors observed a minute of silence for the victims of Tuesday’s mass shooting in Uwalde, Texas.

Unlike past moments of silence, the Chase Center speaker ended up providing resources for people seeking “reasonable gun laws in America.” Although only about a third of the fans were in the arena at the time of the announcement, the shouts were very loud.

Our hearts are with the families and friends of the 21 victims who died tragically at Rob Elementary School.

The Miami Heath ended a similar moment of silence on Wednesday. The team’s announcer told fans: “The Heat urges you to contact your state senators by calling 202-224-3121 to leave a message demanding their support for common sense gun laws.”

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, a longtime supporter of tougher gun laws, has previously expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that moments of silence usually do not achieve much.

“I think it’s the right thing to do a moment of silence, but I’ll be honest, it’s probably the ninth or tenth moment of silence I’ll experience as a Warriors coach as we mourn the loss of people killed in mass shootings.” he said after the Sacramento shooting in April. “I don’t think moments of silence will do anything. At some point, at some point, our government has to decide, ‘Are we going to have common sense gun laws?’ decide everything, but it will save lives. “

He issued a similar tone after the shooting in Texas this week.

“When are we going to do something?” said the coach. “I’m so tired of getting up here and offering my condolences to the devastated families who are there; I’m tired of apologies; I’m tired of moments of silence. That’s enough.”
