People in the northeast can get a mug for only 6 pensions for one day next week – as long as they use a secret code at the bar.
Ahead of the Queen’s platinum anniversary celebrations, local Greene King pubs are offering cheap drinks on Monday, May 30. This is the same price sellers would have paid on the day of the Queen’s coronation in 1952.
Anyone who visits a local Greene King pub or Flaming Grill site will be able to request a Greene King IPA pint in just 6pm, using the secret code word “1952” at the bar.

Andrew Gallagher, Marketing Director at Greene King Local Pubs, said: “The platinum anniversary is a fantastic way for the UK to come together and celebrate our Queen and Country, so we wanted to get our customers back to where it all started – 1952. a time when Vera Lin ran the charts and the pint was only 6p.
“Some of our regular visitors may even remember watching the coronation in 1952, even though they may have been too young to enjoy a mug at the time. We can’t wait to see our customers enjoy this royally good deal on Monday, May 30, and we look forward to celebrating the platinum anniversary in all of our pubs over the weekend on public holidays. “
