Weather in Manitoba: heavy rain, wind coming from the south of Manitoba

People living in southern Manitoba need to prepare for heavy rain and strong winds early in the week.

On Monday morning, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for parts of southern Manitoba, saying the “powerful” lows in Colorado were expected to bring more rain to the region.

The Meteorological Agency noted that the first round of precipitation and thunderstorms will move from the south on Monday afternoon. However, several more showers are expected before the system launches on Tuesday night.

Environment Canada predicts precipitation between 30 and 50 mm, but the exact amounts and weather are still uncertain due to the development of thunderstorms on both sides of the international border. The Meteorological Agency added that heavy rainfall with localized quantities over 50 mm is possible.

Manitobans are reminded that straits can cause sudden floods and water accumulation on the roads. Residents are urged to watch out for leaching near rivers, streams and gutters.

WIND WARNINGS

Environment Canada also issued a wind warning in some parts of the province, including Brandon, Dauphin and Wirden.

The Meteorological Agency warns that due to the low in Colorado, the northern winds will intensify on Monday afternoon and will reach 60 to 90 km / h by evening. The strong wind will continue through the night until Tuesday morning, but will stop until Tuesday afternoon.

Manitobans have been warned that winds can damage buildings. Loose items can be blown away by the wind and cause damage or injury.

Strong winds can also cause power outages and fallen tree branches. Drivers can experience dangerous conditions on highways due to strong crosswinds.
