Nancy Pelosi’s husband killed his older brother when he overturned his sports car in California, 65 years before he was arrested over the weekend and charged with drunk driving, newspaper clippings show.
Paul Pelosi was 16 when he crashed his car near San Mateo in the early hours of February 22, 1957, the Daily Mail reported, citing a local news report at the time.
His brother, David Pelosi, 19, was probably strangled by a splint he was wearing due to a previous neck fracture, according to a San Francisco Examiner report.
Paul, who received a broken collarbone in the crash, called for help after getting out of his car, the report said.
Highway Patrol Thomas Ganley told the local newspaper at the time that Paul said his older brother had called on him to slow down in the run-up to the crash.

“This is a bad stretch – you better slow down,” David is said to have told his brother.
Paul told authorities he tried to shift gears and reduce speed, but lost control of his car.

“The car crossed the road, bounced back from a small embankment, climbed 20 feet up another, turned and flipped at the same time and ended up upside down with the two young men below,” the local report said.
Paul’s older brother was pronounced dead after arriving at Mills Memorial Hospital in San Mateo.
According to the report, the brothers were on a “walk” at the time after Paul picked David up from a friend’s house.
The patrolman said he planned to quote Paul for manslaughter, but the case never reached court and the teenager was acquitted by a jury.
Details of the fatal crash came after Paul’s arrest following his alleged drunken crash in the Napa Valley on Saturday night.
Paul, now 82, was returning home from dinner when he crashed, his lawyer told Fox News.
His lawyer said Paul stopped at an intersection before turning onto State Route 29 when his Porsche 2021 “crashed into the rear fender of a jeep.”
Pelosi, who has been married to the Speaker of the House of Representatives since 1963, has been charged with one count of drunk driving and another charge of driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or higher. Both charges are crimes.
He was released on $ 5,000 bail.
