A bison stabs a woman as she approaches an animal in Yellowstone

A woman was stung by a buffalo in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming after approaching the animal on Monday morning, park officials said.

An unidentified 25-year-old from Grove City, Ohio, was walking toward cattle as he approached the promenade north of Old Faithful, according to a press release.

When he approached ten feet of the animal, he stabbed it and threw it ten feet into the air, officials said.

The victim suffered a stab wound and other injuries and was taken to hospital, authorities said.

Visitors to Yellowstone are advised to stay at least 75 feet from large animals such as bison, moose, sheep, deer, elk and coyotes, and at least 300 feet from bears and wolves.

“Bison have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal. They are unpredictable and can run three times faster than humans, park officials have warned.
