Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky closed an interview with Newsmax, prompting him to say there would be no war in Ukraine if former President Donald Trump were still president of the United States.
Zelensky was interviewed by Newsmax presenter Rob Schmidt in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, on Tuesday about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Schmidt asked Zelensky: “Do you think that the different American leadership, do you think that the different Western leadership may have prevented this aggression?
“There are many Americans who believe that if someone like Donald Trump was still in the White House, this invasion would not have happened. What is your position?”
Zelensky replied that he was grateful for the help provided by current US President Joe Biden, and that the most important thing for Ukraine was the support of the American public, regardless of which party was in power.
He said: “Well, I believe that the most important thing is the help of the people of the United States. They pay taxes, and the money that is allocated to support Ukraine comes from taxes, and all this is humanitarian, financial, military support for Ukraine. That is why I am grateful to the current President of the United States, as well as to those in the political parties who support us. “
“I’m sorry to say something you don’t like, but for us as a country at war, it doesn’t matter if they are Democrats or Republicans. “It is the people of the United States who support us,” he said.
Zelensky later added: “I don’t know what will happen if the president, if Donald Trump is president of the United States for this situation, so I can’t predict what will happen.”
Zelenski said it was important that US institutions such as the Senate and Congress work equally, regardless of who is in power, in order to preserve “United States values.”

Earlier, Trump claimed that his presence in power would prevent Russia from invading.
