A11 Suffolk: A diversion route after a serious accident closes the road

The A11 is likely to remain closed all evening after a serious crash of three vehicles.

The incident happened shortly after 10.30 am on Wednesday on the road near Elveden, Suffolk police said.

The road was closed in both directions between Barton Mills and Elveden after the accident between a truck, Land Rover Defender and Porsche.

The driver of the Porsche, a woman in her 70s, was flown to Adenbrook Hospital with serious injuries, where she remained.

The driver of the truck, a man in his 50s, was also taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds after suffering injuries that were not considered serious.

The crash caused significant damage to the central reservation barrier and the A11 remained closed in both directions between Barton Mills and Elveden while an investigation was underway and the roadway was cleared.

The road is expected to remain closed until the early hours of tomorrow and a diverted route has been built, which is as follows:

North

  • At the Five Ways Roundabout, take the second exit onto the A1065 and continue through RAF Lakenheath to the junction with B1106.
  • Turn right onto B1106 and continue to the intersection with Green Road.
  • At the crossroads, turn left and continue on Green Road to the junction with B1107.
  • Turn right to stay on B1107 to merge onto A11 at the B1107 roundabout.

southwards

  • At the B1107 roundabout, take the third exit onto Brandon. Continue on B1107 to the intersection with Green Road.
  • At the crossroads, turn left and continue on Green Road to the junction with B1106.
  • At the crossroads with B1106, turn right and continue to the crossroads with B1107.
  • Turn left onto the A1065 and continue through RAF Lakenheath to rejoin the A11 on the Five Ways roundabout.
