The Archives of Weapons Violence, a non-profit organization, counted at least 232 such shootings, identified as one in which four or more people were killed or injured, by the end of May. Of those shootings, 11 have killed four or more.
The group registered 693 mass shootings last year, with 28 with four or more deaths.
Here is a partial list of mass shootings this year.
June 1: Tulsa, Okla.
Several people were shot dead and five were killed in a medical building near St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tulsa police said. Police say the attacker is believed to have committed suicide.
May 24: Uwalde, Texas
A gunman killed 19 children and two teachers at Rob Elementary School in Uwalde, Texas, about 80 miles west of San Antonio.
Law enforcement officers fatally shot dead a man identified as Salvador Ramos, 18, but no more than an hour after he entered the school, raising questions about whether lives could have been saved if they had acted earlier.
The US Department of Justice has said it will review law enforcement responses.
May 15: Lagoon Woods, California.
A gunman killed a man and seriously injured four other members of Taiwan’s Presbyterian Church in Irvine, Laguna Woods, California. The congregation, which holds services at the Geneva Presbyterian Church, defeated the gunman and killed him, preventing further bloodshed, authorities said.
The suspect, 68-year-old David Chow, is a Las Vegas man with a wife and child in Taiwan who traveled to Orange County with a complaint against Taiwanese, authorities said. He was charged with murder and five counts of attempted murder in what Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes called a “politically motivated hate incident.”
May 14: Buffalo

An armed man armed with an assault weapon killed 10 people and wounded three others at the Tops supermarket in a predominantly black part of Buffalo, authorities said.
The suspect, Peyton C. Hendron, 18, is white and the 10 people who died are black. Prior to the attack, Mr. Hendron published nearly 200 pages of racist putty online. He pleaded not guilty. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
May 13: Milwaukee
At least 16 people were injured in a shooting in downtown Milwaukee, a popular nightlife area on blocks from the arena where the NBA playoffs ended hours earlier, authorities said.
April 27: Biloxi, Miss.
The owner and two employees of the Broadway Inn Express motel in Biloxi, Miss., Were fatally shot, and another man was also shot while stealing a car. The suspect, 32-year-old Jeremy Alessandr Reynolds, was later found dead, CBS News reported.
April 12: Brooklyn
A gunman opened fire on a crowded subway car during the morning tide, injuring 10 people, the worst attack on the New York subway in decades. More than a dozen others were also injured, some choking on smoke from both devices, police said the attacker was detonated before firing. No one was killed.
The suspect, Frank R. James, was arrested the next day and charged with carrying out a terrorist attack on a mass transport system. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.
April 3: Sacramento

As protesters poured out of nightclubs in a two-square-foot area in downtown Sacramento, gunfire killed six people and wounded 12, authorities said. Days later, the Sacramento Police Department said the center of the shooting, which involved at least five gunmen, was “gang violence”.
March 19: Dumas, Arc.
Two people took part in a shootout and sprayed the crowd with gunfire, killing one random person and injuring 27 others, including six children, at a public event and car show in a small farming community in Arkansas.
January 23: Milwaukee
Law enforcement officers were called to a home in Milwaukee to check well and found six people who were deadly shot. The victims – five men and a woman – were shot dead, police said, and evidence at the start of the investigation suggests the killings were targeted.
