The Boston Celtics probably need to start guarding Stephen Curry just a little tighter.
Curry was eliminated in the first 12 minutes of Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night in a record show. He scored six three-pointers for the Golden State Warriors during the period, breaking the NBA Finals record for most quarters.
Curry actually had a record share of five with Ray Allen and Kenny Smith. Now he is sitting alone on top.
He surpassed James Worthy to climb to No. 13 on the NBA All-Time Finals list in the first half. He is the most active player in this list outside of LeBron James, who is second with 1562 points and about 100 points less than Shaquille O’Neill’s score of 12.
Curry finished the evening with 34 points, 21 of them in the first quarter, and shot 7 of 14 behind the arc. He added five rebounds and five assists in his 38 minutes.
Despite Curry’s hot hand, the Warriors tripped heavily in the fourth quarter. The Celtics outscored the Golden State 40-16 in that period alone, leading Boston to a 120-108 victory in Game 1.
Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Sunday night in San Francisco.
