A shooting at a mall in Phoenix, Arizona, killed one and injured eight others early Saturday morning.
Two female victims are being treated for life-threatening injuries, while another died of severe injuries after the attack, police said.
Injuries received by six other people in the shooting, including a teenager, are not life-threatening. They were all transported to local hospitals.
Phoenix Police Department Sgt. Andy Williams told a news conference that a brawl broke out during a “large gathering” of about 100 people at the mall and escalated into a shooting, according to a video released by ABC15. Police did not detain the suspects.
The shooting happened after midnight in the northern part of the city, police said.
Law enforcement is investigating the shooting based on surveillance videos and other information, with police saying there is “a ton” of physical evidence that needs to be verified.
“Change must happen now,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Galego (D) wrote in response to the shooting. “It simply came to our notice then.
This follows a series of other shootings across the country, including a primary school in Uwalde, Texas, last week and a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, last month.

The shooting in Uwalde at Rob Elementary School killed 19 children and two teachers.
Following the massacre, the Texas legislature formed investigative committees this week in both the House of Representatives and the Senate to prevent future shootings and increase security at the school.
The accused Buffalo shooter traveled to a predominantly black area and killed 10 in a racially motivated attack.
