Jacob Hogard Trial: Jurors review more testimony

Toronto –

Jurors in the sexual assault case against Canadian musician Jacob Hogard reviewed more testimony on Saturday as the debate continued for five days.

The jury twice told the court that it could not reach a unanimous verdict on “some” points in the case, but the judge asked them to keep trying.

On Friday evening, the jurors asked the court to reproduce the testimony given by Hogard and the second applicant concerning their meeting on 22 November 2016.

They continued to listen to him on Saturday and also asked to hear some of the first applicant’s testimony. They are expected to continue listening to this recording on Sunday.

Hogard, the Hedley frontman, pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual assault and one of sexual intercourse, sexual assault.

Prosecutors allege that Hogard forcibly and repeatedly raped a teenage girl and young woman from Ottawa in the fall of 2016, and that he groped the teenager after a Hadley show in the spring of 2016, when she was 15 years old.

The defense claims that Hogard never touched the teenager sexually before the age of 16, and that his sexual encounters with the two applicants were by mutual consent.
