Illegal rave in Cornwall: Secret text shows reason for free party and sweet message to ravers

A secret text message used to organize an “illegal” rave in North Cornwall revealed the importance of the free party, the motive behind it – and contained some sweet instructions for the ravers who attended.

The event at the former RAF site Davidstow Moor near Camelford has been revealed to have been organized through secret text messages sent to the phones of the revelers attending the rave. Cornwall Live has already seen this announcement – and it shows that the event was not organized to celebrate the Queen’s platinum anniversary.

Instead, he was to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the largest free party ever held in the United Kingdom – where between 20,000 and 40,000 ravers took over Castlemorton Common in Malvern Hills, Worcester, England between May 22 and 29, 1992. d.

However, the statement sweetly asked everyone present to “pay tribute to the locals and the authorities” and said that “the mission is to leave the site as we find it”. It also says that the event will include “80 teams divided into many stages” – and “let’s make some noise”.

While the text reveals that the party “celebrates 30 years of Castlemorton” and not the Queen’s platinum anniversary, the message says “thanks to Lizzie, we will start the party on Friday night and continue until Sunday”.

Castlemorton was a legendary free party that started as a small free festival for travelers – but went down in history as the largest illegal rave ever held in the UK. This led to a £ 4 million lawsuit and the passage of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, which effectively criminalizes rave culture – and disgracefully made listening to a series of repeated strikes “in” gathering the open land “illegal.

The law came less than ten years after the infamous Battle of Beanfield in Wiltshire in 1985, which ended in one of the largest mass arrests of civilians in English legal history. This led to the successful trial of the police for illegal imprisonment.

ITN reporter Kim Sabido was at the Battle of Beanfield on June 1 when he reported seeing a number of people – including those “holding babies in their arms” – being “hit” by police officers. Sabido said he had just witnessed “some of the most brutal police relations with people” he had seen in his career as a journalist. Footage of the incident is the basis of the torturous 1991 Channel 4 documentary Operation Solstice.

Photojournalist and author Matt Smith, who has already documented the free party scene, festival chain and rave culture in the UK over five different decades, told Cornwall Live earlier: “The Battle of Beanfield was not the only incident, there were others. “Everyone who made the people independent and gave them power was attacked – he was crushed, mercilessly.

“The Criminal Justice Act was the culmination of attempts to close this culture. This would eliminate the whole way of life. It made it illegal to hang out with friends and party in the woods. ”
