Sunday, June 5, 2022, 11:24 a.m. – An unidentified model will bring much-needed rain to the southern half of Alberta this week.
Alberta will see relief from the constant dry conditions throughout the province in the coming days.
On Monday, light precipitation will continue during the day, as snow and mixed precipitation are possible near the mountain peaks.
Calgary receives about 94 mm of rain in typical June. With 30-50 mm of additional rainfall in the forecast for parts of the Calgary subway area, we are considering more than half a month of rain that will fall in just a few days.
Weather forecasters warn that there is a wide potential for thunderstorms on Monday. The main threats associated with these storms are strong gusts of wind and light hail.
A total of 20-50 mm of rainfall is expected from the elbow area down to the south-east corner of the province. Most of the precipitation will remain south of Edmonton, where less than 10 mm of precipitation is expected.

Prairie rainfall has been a story of everything or nothing for the past few months. Although the people of Manitoba cannot relax from the constant flooding, it has been difficult to get a lot of rain in the west lately.
Much of southern Alberta has had less than half the normal rainfall in the last 90 days. This impending cycle of constant rainfall will help to moisten the soil and will begin to reverse some of the damage caused by this prolonged dry weather.
Drought has led to increased fire risk for much of the region. Be on the lookout for potential evacuation notices if you are in Southern Alberta or Southern Saskatchewan. Officials ordered an evacuation on Friday over a wildfire north of Crimson Lake in Clearwater County.
Near the end of the week, higher temperatures and drier conditions will move and persist next weekend.
