A Kentucky man uses a concealed pistol to shoot and kill a deputy sheriff who let him go outside to smoke after his arrest last month.
Gary Rowland, 30, was arrested on May 16 on warrants for drugs and firearms, as well as evading parole.
A team from several agencies interviewed him about an hour after his arrest as part of a separate investigation at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office when Rowland asked him if he could go outside to smoke.

“While he was smoking, Mr Rowland pulled out a pistol hidden over him, fired at him in the direction and struck [Calloway County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jody Cash]”Kentucky police said Friday after an investigation.

Other deputies returned fire and wounded Rowland. Both Rowland and Cash were transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
