The situation in Severodonetsk, the center of intense fighting in eastern Ukraine between Russian forces and Ukrainian troops, has “deteriorated somewhat”, according to the Luhansk Oblast governor.
“The fighting is very dynamic,” Sergei Haidai, governor of the eastern province of Luhansk, said in an update to the Telegram on Monday.
“Half of the city was captured during the counter-offensive, but we now hold positions in the industrial zone,” he said, adding that the number of shellings in the cities of Severodonetsk and Lisichansk “has increased tenfold.”
He said there are a number of cities in the Luhansk region that are in a situation comparable to Mariupol, the heavily ruined southern port city now in Russia’s hands.

Heavy fighting continues around the disputed city of Severodonetsk in eastern Ukraine, the British Ministry of Defense said in its daily intelligence update.
In addition, Russian forces continue to press on Slavyansk as part of their attempt to encircle Ukrainian forces, the ministry said.
Russian forces may also have moved a number of air defenses to Snake Island in the western Black Sea to protect their ships operating in the area, the ministry said. This followed the loss of the flagship cruiser Moscow in April.

Zelenski visited the front line despite heavy fighting

Zelensky went to Lisichansk and Soledar in eastern Ukraine, where Russia used indiscriminate missile and artillery attacks on large areas. The cities are in Luhansk and Donetsk, respectively.
Earlier, the Ukrainian president visited Zaporozhye, Sky reported. This city is on the Dnieper River, near the southern front against Russian troops.
A video shared on Twitter claims that Zelensky is visiting positions near Lisichansk, where he is handing out awards to Ukrainian soldiers.

About 800 people are hiding in several bomb shelters located under the Azot chemical plant in Severodonetsk, the head of the Luhansk region’s military administration told CNN.
