Windsor-Essex hospitals adhere to the COVID-19 mask policy

The mandates for masks for visitors, patients and staff at Windsor-Essex hospitals will remain in force as Ontario’s policy expires.

Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH), Erie Shores Healthcare (ESHC) and Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH) said on Wednesday that despite the decline in COVID-19 levels, masking policies and procedures will remain in place.

The decision “takes into account the riskier environment in which WRH, ESHC and HDGH work with many elderly and immune-compromised patients,” the hospitals said in a joint press release.

Although most of Ontario’s mask mandates were lifted in March, the province’s chief medical officer kept the directive on some high-risk conditions, including hospitals. It expires this Saturday.

Now individual hospitals must decide whether to keep the rules for masks, the statement said.
