The PC Oposition joins people in calling for a full explanation of the RCMP’s actions at a West Coast home last week.
Police entered Mount Moriah’s house in the middle of the night, apparently looking for a missing 17-year-old girl.
But they found themselves in the wrong home, waking up and questioning an 11-year-old girl in her dark bedroom.
The mountains say they have the right to enter without an order in certain circumstances.
But there have been controversies in police history since the incident.
PC Justice critic Helen Conway-Otenheimer says an apology and a full explanation should be the first step.
She is also concerned about the RCMP’s hostile response.
She says she hopes that the defense capabilities and mentality we have against them in “defending ourselves” are not indicative of a broader culture within the police force.
Conway-Otenheimer called on the provincial justice minister to encourage the RCMP to “do the right thing” by apologizing and fully explaining his actions.
The RCMP called the media at 3:30 p.m. to deal with the incident.
