This afternoon, IGN unveiled its annual Summer of Games presentation, which included plenty of game trailers covering all genres and tastes. Fellow fellow editor Wesley LeBlanc and I watched the show together and picked a handful of titles that we look forward to seeing more in the future. Now this list won’t include the show’s big hitters like Gunggrave GORE, DNF Duel, The Walking Dead or the latest Aliens: Fireteam Elite extension, but instead highlights some games you may not know anymore. Check out these great looking indie titles that come on a gaming machine near you:
The last worker
The Last Worker received a new trailer during the IGN Expo stream today, showing more than the game’s exciting voice cast. Speaking of this cast, today’s trailer showed great talent: Jason Isaacs (Lucas Malfoy in Harry Potter movies), Zelda Williams (daughter of Robin Williams!), Tommy Earl Jenkins (Die Hardman in Death Stranding), Clare-Hope AshitiNobody’s master), Olafur Dari Olafson and David Hewlett. As for what to expect, the developer Oiffy describes the game as follows in today’s description of the trailer:
“The main character Kurt needs a certain kind of break, but I just can’t find one in this trailer for The Last Worker. This narrative adventure explores what happens when humans are replaced by robots in a delivery warehouse in an extreme capitalist environment.
The Last Worker is coming out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, Switch and PC (as well as on unspecified VR platforms) sometime this year.
The roots of the patch
Roots of Pacha was announced last year, but today’s trailer gave us another look at the beautiful farm game, similar to Stardew Valley. It also includes more than the game’s extremely playful music. And to coincide with that, we looked at the mini-game with a musical rhythm in Roots of Pacha. The latest version of Soda Den has a Steam demo that you can play right now, and if you use the “Smiley” code, you’ll get an exclusive cat hat to use.
Here’s how Roots of Pacha is described in the IGN trailer released today:
“Roots of Pacha allows you to build, harvest, make friends with animals and help develop your village in a single player or cooperative mode. This Roots of Pacha game trailer shows some new elements that you can experience while playing. ”
Ship of fools
A new trailer for Ship of Fools was released today, revealing that Fika Productions’ bagel bag is coming to consoles. In addition, this colorful and chaotic game will include both online and cooperative play. The new trailer also reveals another look at the frantic gameplay, as well as the many in-game stores you must visit and the map we will use to navigate these dangerous waters. Ship of Fools is coming out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, Switch and PC sometime this year.
Under Ores
From the minds of Broken Spear Inc. comes Beneath Oresa, a new Roguelike deck builder who guides adventurers through the tunnels below the city of Oresa. Each character you introduce into the tunnels has different benefits to use to try to survive in the wet and dangerous underground. The new trailer, presented in today’s IGN showcase, revealed a new boss, a fleshy, impressive mass of monster with an improvised spear in his hand and attacking the hero from the darkness. Under Oressa it looks beautiful and intriguing. If you’re also interested in checking it out before its foggy release date in 2022, there’s a demo to check out right now on Steam.
SacriFire
This JRPG from the developers of Pixelated Milk is not only fun to watch, but it looks like it could be a great return to classic role-playing adventures. Pseudo-mimicking the HD-2D style Square Enix has used in recent years, SacriFire has that great new school retro look we love to see. It combines both real-time elements in battle with traditional turn-based action to create what we hope will be exciting and strategic gameplay. SacriFire does not currently have a release date, but is expected to land on PC this year.
