Country singer Toby Keith reveals he has stomach cancer

Country music star Toby Keith announced on social media that he has stomach cancer.

The Red Solo Cup singer revealed the news to his 796,000 followers on Instagram on Sunday, saying he received the diagnosis in the fall.

“I spent the last six months receiving chemotherapy, radiation and surgery,” he wrote. “So far so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax.”

He said he looked forward to “spending this time” with his family and hoped to see his fans “sooner or later”, adding: “I can’t wait.”

Keith had to embark on a multi-city tour in support of his latest album, Peso in My Pocket, with the first show scheduled for June 17.

In light of his cancer diagnosis, there is no official news on whether the tour will continue, be rescheduled or canceled, but his July 28 concert at the Ohio State Fair was canceled, according to local branch of ABC News WSYX.

The singer of “As Good as I Ever Was” has a story in support of cancer patients. In 2006, he launched the Toby Keith Foundation, which provides help to children with cancer, according to its website.
