Fierce fighting continues in Severodonetsk and Kharkiv Oblast, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address Tuesday.
In Severodonetsk, “the losses, unfortunately, are painful,” Zelenski said. “But we must endure.” He then said that it was vital for the Ukrainian military to remain in Donbass.
“The more losses the enemy suffers there, the less power there will be to continue the aggression. Therefore, the direction of Donbass is key to determining who will dominate in the coming weeks, “Zelenski said.
The President of Ukraine also spoke about the “painful losses” in the Kharkiv region, where the Russian army is trying to strengthen its position.
“The struggle in this direction continues and we still have to fight hard to fight for the full security of Kharkiv and the region,” Zelensky said.
Fierce battles are being fought in Izyum, south of Kharkiv, according to local official Maxim Strelnik.
Strelnik, deputy of the city council of Izyum, said that Russian forces are trying to move in the direction of Slavyansk and Barvinkove.
The Ukrainian armed forces managed to liberate some settlements on the outskirts of Izyum with counterattacks. Strelnik estimates that 15,000 civilians remain in Izyum, while the city lacks electricity, water, gas, mobile communications and the Internet. According to the official, about 80% of the infrastructure has been destroyed in Izyum.
