US forces have detained a senior ISIL leader who is said by defense officials to be an experienced bomb maker during an operation in Syria on Thursday.
“The mission was carefully planned to minimize the risk of collateral damage, especially any potential damage to civilians,” said a statement from Operation Inherent Resolve, the US-led coalition against ISIS.
“There were no civilian casualties during the operation, no damage to aircraft or coalition property.

The identity of the captured ISIL leader was not immediately revealed by defense officials.

Earlier, another former ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, committed suicide in northern Syria in October 2019, when US special operations forces entered the complex where he was.

“Coalition forces will continue to pursue the remnants of Daesh, wherever they hide, to ensure their permanent defeat,” said Operation Inherent Determination.
