Los Angeles Progressive District Attorney George Gascon is facing growing efforts to bring him down amid outrage that his “reckless” policies have left a violent gangster free to kill two cops.
The awakened prosecutor, who is already facing withdrawal efforts, was accused of killing 35-year-old cop killer Justin Flores when he shot Capt. Michael Paredes and Officer Joseph Santana on Tuesday.
The criminal, who had a tattoo of loyalty to the gang on his face, was free, although he was accused of violating his probation by illegally carrying a gun.
U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was among those who criticized Gascony after prosecutors issued a statement expressing “heartfelt condolences” to the grieving relatives of the slain cops.

“Officers Paredes and Santana gave their lives in the service of their fellow citizens,” Cruz tweeted late Wednesday.
“It is outrageous that the killer was not in prison because of the reckless actions of George Gascon, a radical, soft-spoken criminal, backed by a Soros prosecutor,” the Texas senator wrote.
Kurt Schlichter, an army veteran and lawyer with more than 450,000 Twitter followers, went even further.

“The Gascon killed these boys,” he tweeted angrily. “Remember that garbage.”
Jennifer Van Laar, managing editor of the conservative Red State newspaper, said she was “heartbroken and insane.”
“George Gascon, you are killing police officers – and many others. “YOU HAVE TIME,” she wrote on Twitter.

Kevin Dalton, a candidate for the Los Angeles Supervisory Board, also said that the cops “should be alive today, if not the policy of George Gascon.”
“George Gascon should be charged with complicity in murder x 2,” he tweeted.
The cop killer Flores has been banned from carrying a weapon since 2011 but was released, although in February 2021 he was not disputed for possession of a firearm as a criminal, the Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday.
This gun sentence could send him to prison for three years. Instead, he was sentenced to two years probation and 20 days in prison, which he had already served, a prosecutor said during a hearing.

He was warned that if he was found with any weapons – including weapons, ammunition and knives – he could still receive this three-year sentence, writes LA Times.
His probation officer filed a request for a revocation hearing for “desertion” on Monday, just a day before the massacre, the newspaper said.
He was accused of assaulting his girlfriend – but was not arrested, with officials only saying they were “currently investigating” why not.

Flores, who had a Quiet tattoo on his face to commemorate his loyalty to the Quiet Village gang, had stabbed his ex-wife, Diana Flores, just days earlier, she told NBCLA, a clear violation of his probation.
He was trying to confront her at the motel where she was hiding from him on Tuesday when he opened fire on the two officers, she told the exit.
Flores was pronounced dead at the scene while police later died at a local hospital.
The new outrage over Gascon’s policy of soft treatment of crime came on the same day as a group trying to withdraw it said it had reached the required 567,000 signatures.
Efforts follow the ultra-liberal San Franciscans, who voted overwhelmingly to get rid of their own progressive district prosecutor, Chesa Budin.
