Environment Canada says conditions could create severe thunderstorms capable of producing a tornado this afternoon in western Quebec and much of eastern Ontario.
Tornado watches cover most of eastern Ontario – with the exception of Belleville, Brockville, Cornwall, Deep River and Kingston – and all of western Quebec.
The clocks are released when Environment Canada determines that conditions are favorable for the development of thunderstorms strong enough to include a tornado.
Tornado warnings are issued when a tornado is reported or there is reliable evidence that it is imminent.
If a tornado warning is issued, Environment Canada recommends going indoors to a room on the lowest possible floor of a strong building, away from outside walls.
If you can’t get inside, lie down and keep your head. Do not look for cover for trees that may fall.
Storms can bring gusts of 90 to 110 kilometers per hour in eastern Ontario, as well as heavy hail.

There are strong thunderstorms in the Kingston and Belleville areas, and while Environment Canada says it can’t completely rule out tornadoes, winds and hail appear most likely in those areas.
The tornado clocks come less than a month after a light tornado in the Kasselman area of Ontario and a devastating devastation that cut off hundreds of thousands of customers in the region and killed at least 10 people in Ontario and Quebec.
