A man in custody after a woman on fire near a Toronto subway station

A man is in custody after a female victim was set on fire near a transit station in Toronto early Friday afternoon.

Police say they were initially called to the Kipling Avenue and Dundas Street area around 12:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a man attacking a woman nearby.

According to investigators, a man poured liquid on a woman and then set her on fire.

TTC police, as well as nearby citizens, helped the victim and she was rushed to hospital. Police said her injuries were life-threatening.

The suspect was detained in connection with the incident.

The subway did not operate on line 2 between Kipling and Islington stations on Friday afternoon, although authorities did not say exactly where the incident took place.
