The 16-year-old and 18-year-old drowned in separate incidents while swimming in Rockaway on Friday, officials and sources said.
A boy swimming on 100th Street Beach was pulled out of the water by FDNY staff with the help of a New York City Park Patrol, the city’s park department said.
A girl was pulled out of the water by civilians on 108th Street Beach.
Both were transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead, authorities said.
The teens swam in restricted areas, Parks officials said. They were still in the water after 6 pm, when the rescuers left for the day.

“Our hearts are broken by these unfortunate deaths,” said the park department.
“This is a painful reminder that New Yorkers should never enter the water in closed areas of our coastline where rescuers are not present. We urge New Yorkers to swim only in open areas and when lifeguards are on duty.
