Two suspicious fires broke out in James Bay late Thursday, including a fire that spread from a garbage container to a parking lot, damaging or destroying six vehicles.
Firefighters were called to Menzies Street near Dallas Road at 11:45 p.m. in a small fire in front of an apartment building.
The fire was deliberately started and extinguished by residents of the building, police said.
As firefighters prepared to leave the scene of the first fire, crews were alerted by a resident of a second building, about 100 meters away, who directed them to a larger fire in the canopy area of their 450 Dallas Rd building. , near Menzies Street.
Firefighters managed to control and extinguish the second fire before it spread to buildings.
There were no injuries.
Both fires are under investigation, police said.
Investigators are asking anyone with a control camera, door camera or other video from the area between 11:30 pm Thursday and 12:30 am Friday to keep the footage and call 250‑995-7654 Appendix 1.
