Four fire crews are attending the former College of Arts on Elinor Street in Grimsby tonight as the flames pierce the large old building.
The former Grimsby Community College (Wintringham High School) was opened in 1895 and was later a technical school, art college and local education building, but now lies dilapidated. The empty shell has been a source of concern for locals for several years.
The Humberside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that teams from Grimsby and Imingham had gone to the scene after the fire was first reported at 5.14pm on Sunday (June 19th). Eleanor Street is closed to traffic from Hainton Avenue to Heneage Road.

The prolific local architect Herbert C. Scaping designed the Class II building, which shows his trademark roof dome, built by builders from Grimsby Huins and Goodhand. The prestigious academy opened its doors on Thursday, October 24, 1895 and is the leading institution of the local school.
After the closure of the Technical School, it eventually became Grimsby Art College, which closed in 1994. It was then sold to an anonymous developer and plans were made to turn it into apartments, but only a few apartments were completed.
