The German artist DAIM created the world’s tallest mural in Calgary

A German graffiti artist is in Calgary trying to create the tallest mural in the world.

Mirko Raiser, known as DAIM, uses a swing to paint and paint an extremely tall work of art on the east side of the First on Tenth building in the center, located at 123 Tenth Avenue SW

Raiser, whose career began on the streets of Hamburg, Germany in the 1980s, says he began creating the project in his sketchbook before switching to his computer to complete the work.

“I think it took me seven days to put the sketch on the wall,” he said. “Not only is he very tall, but he’s also very big.”

Raiser, who is visiting Calgary for the first time to complete the project, says this is his first time on the swing scene.

“It’s very high, so it’s definitely a challenge.”

To help him, Raiser has three assistants from Calgary

“I can’t do it alone. It’s too big, too tall,” he said.

Reiser says he has already completed the world’s tallest graffiti project 27 years ago, but it was only 28 meters high.

“So that’s three times higher,” he said.

The rising art project is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

It could potentially have been completed earlier, but the rain and wind created less than Reisser’s ideal painting environment.

“If it’s too windy, spray paint flies everywhere,” he complained.

The huge undertaking is part of the Beltline Urban Murals Project (BUMP), a community-led and artist-focused festival that sees public spaces rethought through art.

The BUMP Festival in Calgary 2022 is held from August 1 to 28.
