A bicycle wheel thrown on the rails stopped the TTC subway for almost 2 hours

A bicycle bike thrown on the track stopped the TTC subway service on section 1 of the line for more than 90 minutes on Monday morning.

Stuart Green, a spokeswoman for the transit agency, said the security video showed a man crashing his bike on the north runway near Queen Station shortly after 6:30 a.m.

The metal rim came into contact with the power rail, through which 600 volts of electricity passed. This caused the tire to start smoking. The incident was originally reported to be a fire.

For safety reasons, the TTC had to suspend all services between Bloor-Yonge and Union.

TTC firefighters and mechanics were called, but it took until 8:30 a.m. to release the trains again.

Green said the security video would be shared with police.
