One of the big features that came with Chromecast with Google TV in late 2020 was the eponymous software and dashboard on Google TV. Google’s last attempt to put its services in front of your eyes while watching TV was a starter that put personalization and smart recommendations in the forefront, as long as you’re a one-person household, of course. Google TV only supported one user profile, and after adding child profiles later, Google promised to support more accounts so you don’t have to go through endless Baby Shark recommendations. After some slowdown and slow launch, this feature is finally here.
Google TV users should now be able to add multiple user profiles to their devices thanks to a live server update, although it may still require a restart or reinstallation of the Google TV app to run it. I can personally confirm that restarting my Chromecast with Google TV gave me the “Presenting Accounts on Google TV” home screen, prompting you to add another Google Account.
Once you’ve added more Google Accounts, you’ll be able to customize your interface with separate watchlists and smart recommendations based on your viewing habits. Hopefully, this will help reduce the time it takes to decide what you want to watch, while no longer having to subject your partner to recommendations for your own guilty pleasures, such as anime shows or wrestling documentaries.
