UPDATE: Campbell River’s RCMP says a man is dead and a woman was taken to hospital after a shooting incident on the Campbell River on Tuesday afternoon.
The RCMP says officers responded in the Upland Drive and Robron Road area to a firing signal.
Police say the man’s death was from a clear self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“There is no constant threat to public safety,” Campbell River told RCMP Cst. Mori Tyr. “Our staff will continue the investigation at night and we will provide the public with additional information when it is reasonable to do so.”
A spokesman for British Columbia’s emergency services first confirmed the double shooting to CHEK News, saying paramedics had been called at 3:37 p.m. on Tuesday.
Campbell River’s RCMP says they have sent victim services to help families, and are asking people to avoid discussing or posting photos of the incident on social media channels to allow families to mourn in private.
The shooting reportedly took place in a residential complex on Robron Road and Upland Drive. (OpenStreetMap)
