John Wood: A top investigator left the commission on January 6 earlier

Wood confirmed to CNN that he was leaving at the end of the week. He had no further comment.

Wood was encouraged to run for the Missouri Senate after the recent controversy over Republican Senate nominee Eric Grittens’ ad, in which he proposed hunting down political opponents. Wood previously worked for former U.S. Sen. Jack Danforth, a Republican from Missouri.

Wood is a senior investigative adviser to the committee, as well as an adviser to Vice President Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican. His departure comes as the commission continues to hold hearings, as well as to investigate and obtain new information.

Wood helped conduct an interrogation in a committee hearing last week that focused on a campaign to pressure former President Donald Trump on former Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
