“It’s not the first time, it won’t be the last.”
Owen Wright lives on Stockwell Avenue in Kelowna.
He shares a security video taken Thursday at 6:18 a.m., which shows a man entering Wright’s backyard and starting a search around. After a few minutes, Wright can be seen coming out to face the wanderer.
Wright says they built a fence to protect their property and added a security camera and other security measures, but that doesn’t seem to stop wanderers from coming in and taking whatever they can find.
“Last time was a pretty big result. They took all our power tools and top LED lights and canopy. This time, they actually jumped the fence, ”says Wright.
Since then, Wright has religiously inspected his security cameras every morning.
“I noticed that there were two reports that came out and I saw that there was a man there.” Wright says that he did not stop thinking about it, but immediately went to face the future thief.
“I mean, he’s taking shit from me, we have to stand up. And I stood there for maybe a solid 15 minutes, giving him a good chunk of my mind. “
Wright says he got to the point where he wanted to see what was in his bag, and the future thief apologized and eventually left without incident. The incident was reported to the RCMP.
Wright says he works hard to earn money to buy his tools, and is very disappointed that he can’t stop the wanderers from entering his property. “I stopped this man in action, but I can’t touch him without getting in trouble. The police are limited to what they can do to help. We don’t know what to do anymore. “
“Obviously the cop says ‘lock your things,’ but we can’t really lock the car shelter and they just jump over the fence,”
Wright says he hopes there won’t be another time, but he knows he probably will.
